Do Not Cancel…Postpone!

Why you Should Reschedule your Event during the COVID-19 Crisis

This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. For the past year or so, you have been planning your wedding or event and it’s finally here. Then in the blink of an eye, the entire world is facing an uncontrollable pandemic that pretty much forces the cancellation of weddings and events of every size all over the world including yours. You’re angry, you’re disappointed and you have every right to be, however, I urge you not to cancel your event. Here are reasons why you should postpone:

  • Safety First! – There are so many known and unknown variables of the Corona virus. Because most healthy people don’t experience symptoms within the first 14 days of contracting it, it is difficult to know who’s a carrier and who’s not. The best and safest option for you and your guests are to wait until the pandemic slows down or goes away completely and we have been given the green light to celebrate as normal. The health and safety of you and your guests should be the first priority!

  • Don’t Lose Your Deposits – When you sign contracts with your chosen vendors, the contract outlines the terms including words like “non-refundable retainer fee required.” This deposit holds your date and guarantees services with your chosen vendor. Although COVID-19 is something totally out of our control, vendors may not return your deposit. However, most are willing to transfer your current deposit amount to a rescheduled date. This saves you from losing any monies that you paid and ensures that you get to keep the vendors.

  • Regroup and Revise! – You’ve cried, you’ve sobbed and now it’s time to regroup and revise. Take out all of the plans you have for your event and comb through the details with a keen eye. Make sure all of your I’s are dotted and your T’s are crossed. The excess time is actually a good thing for you. There may have been something you wanted to add to your event but you didn’t have the money or ran out of time. Now you have been gifted with more time! Save some cash and use it to add that extra bit of “WOW” to your event. If you feel this to be too overwhelming, rely on your planner to take the lead and do the work for you. If you haven’t considered one, now might be the time to consider hiring a planner. Planning a wedding or big event can be stressful enough. Give yourself a break and leave it to a planner!

  • Delayed Doesn’t Mean Denied – I know it’s difficult to hear the words “canceled” or “postponed” after you’ve been planning your event for what feels like forever! Remember, it’s delayed, not denied! Anything that you have put your time, sweat and tears into will be beautiful no matter when it takes place. Just like on your wedding day or event day, your audience will wait for you!
